John
I am sorry to hear about your former parent. It always seems that just when someone is getting their live together tragedy strikes.

I have always said that God did not give me children of my own because he gives me 25 every year and once they are in my class they are part of me forever. I truly believe that the reason some students succeed is simply because they know their teacher cares.

Despite testing, curriculum, politics and all the nonsense that goes on about "the state of education in this country" - if we love our students they know and that's how we make a difference.

Oh John,

I am so sorry to hear about your former parent. As an educator who loves her students and care about the families they come from, I understand. You said it perfectly... teaching is not a job you can just leave at the end of the day, the people and children you touch are a part of your life. And to me, no matter how sad or frustrating it may be at times, caring is never a bad thing. Sorry for your loss and that of your former students.
